Gola appoints key account manager

Cheaney’s Tenterden Brogue as worn by Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher movie

Anatomic & Co’s key focus for the SS14 season has been on colour and texture, with beautiful suede’s key to the collection – ranging from traditional brown to vibrant orange.
The Guto (as seen above) is a timelessly classic Chelsea boot with brogue detailing, the sole featured is Anatomic & Co’s ‘England’ model, which is created with a rubber gel and the added comfort of sheepskin lining.

Cocorose London New Website and Campaign
With a brand new website, a new campaign and the opening of a boutique in Manila, Philippines last week, Cocorose London have plenty of exciting things happening.

Lotus expands internationally
British footwear brand Lotus has initiated an international development strategy that will see it venture into new territories over the next five years. Lotus has initially inked distributor agreements that will see the contemporary, yet wearable, footwear collections for women and men, plus the exuberant range of handbags debut for spring/summer 2014 in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada and the USA.
Alan Scott, Lotus managing director, commented “Together with market intelligence and recent online activity we have established that there is a genuine demand for this renowned British brand overseas. As such, the focus is to work with reputable partners in new territories to increase Lotus’s global presence”.

FN Platform Las Vegas – 19-21 August – First Report
On the 19 August – over 30 British footwear brands gathered at the Las Vegas to show their SS 2014 collections.
Although visitor numbers attending the show seemed to be lower than previous years, when the show closed on 21 August a good percentage of our brands reported they had taken orders and made significant new retail and distributive contacts from the USA and other international markets including Latin America and the Far East.
As last year, the BFA developed a specially commissioned British Edition area and showcased five BFA member brands: London Sole, Esska, Unanimous, Angeline Lee and Nicola Sexton.
United Nude recently collaborated with Zaha Hadid
This incredible shoe was recently co-created by United Nude and architect Zaha Hadid. Launched in July, this iconic design was created with no pre-conceptions and only to ignore all the rules and create an entirely new form of shoe, this NOVA design thrives from the experimentation of its creative and passionate designers.

Cheaney Shoes launch luxe collection
Traditional mens welted shoe manufacturers, Cheaney Shoes, have launched a new Lux Collection for AW13. Currently exhibiting at GDS, Dusseldorf, the collection has proved a hit with the German Market.
Barker Shoes recieve great response from German Retailers at GDS
British made Barker Shoes are to open a new store in Prauge alongside the launch of a new contemporary mens range. The northamptonshire based company have recieved an excellent response from the German market at this seasons GDS Exhibition in Dusseldorf.
Selfridges Shoe Carnival featuring Cheaney, Oliver Sweeney & Jeffery West
Infamous department store Selfridges is to host a Menswear Shoe Carnival from the 1st March up until the 21st of April, whereby every week one brand will be providing exclusive services to create one of a kind personalised shoes.
BFA members Cheaney, Oliver Sweeney and Jeffrey West (who are all showing at various global exhibitions this season) will each be hosting one of the weeks during the carnival.

Celebrity favourite French Sole showing at GDS this week

Iconic ballet flats label French Sole have established themselves as a celebrity must have since launching back in 1989. British and international icons from HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, style icon Olivia Palermo and supermodel Claudia Schiffer have all been spotted out and about in the classic shoe.
The Autumn Winter collection will be availble to view at GDS Dusseldorf this week in Hall 4 stand E34.

Butterfly Twists appoint distributors
Foldable ballet pump brand Butterfly Twists have this season appointed distributors to cover Spain, Poland, Switzerland and Finland. Butterfly Twists have also recently added a flexible foldable Welly boot to their collection.
JuJu attract distributors
Distributors from Greece, Turkey, America and east Asia have shown interest in JuJu, who have expanded from the iconic jelly shoe range to include Welly boots and most recently a jelly trainer.

Irregular Choice secure global accounts at Micam
Irregular Choice were extremely popular with buyers from the Chinese and Japense Markets, as well as securing a large order with a key Spanish footwear retailer.
Texture & Geometry for Esska AW13/14
Urban comfort brand Esska has unveiled their AW13/14 Collection featuring ankle boots, chunky heels and ballerinas. Texture is key with geometric treatments and embosses layering onto suede, leather and patent.
The range retains classic Esska styling with the clean lines, dominant shapes, stylish detailing and practicality that they are renowned for, in a rich and warm palette.
The full collection will be showing at Micam Milan and GDS Dusseldorf this March.

This seasons FN Platform has been extremely successful for the Brits exhibiting there, with big US retail names Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Urban Outfitters placing orders, as well as news of agents appointed, new product launches and exciting developments with the UKTI in Mexico.
The British Presence is steadily growing season on season with 29 brands attending the AW13 show, varying from ethical label Beyond Skin – who have proved very popular with vegan retailers in the US- to Bridal Footwear company Paradox- achieving 400 retail outlets- and quirky menswear brand Jeffery West- opening a NY store later this year- it is clear there is a demand for British Footwear in the US.
Nordstrom take on British brands at FN Platform
US Department store giant Nordstrom has taken up accounts with Miista Shoes, Frank Wright, Hudson and Oliver Sweeney during the 3 day trade show in Las Vegas.
Miista, already stocked by the store, will be extended out into 10 key outlets across the US taking the brand to over 60 key accounts in the United States. Miista are fast becoming a street fashion favourite, popular among influential bloggers such as Style Bubble, 5 inch and up and Kingdom of Style.
It is a similar story with young brand Hudson Shoes, whose celebrity fans include UK Hip Hop artist Tinie Tempah and pop sensation Harry Styles of One Direction, receiving increased orders from Nordstrom and a second infamous department store, Bloomingdales.
L.K. Bennett collaborate with style icon Caroline Issa
British accessible luxury brand L.K.Bennett have unveiled an exciting collaboration with London based style icon Caroline Issa.
The limited edition collection features statement sandals, ankle strap stillettoes, shoe boots, the kitten heel and a loafer. Hot neon Thai inspired embroidery puffs out in captivating pinks, oranges, greens, yellows and reds based on a background of natural, pink or black canvas and leather. Delicate and striking oriental flowers and zig-zags welcome in the Spring season with swing-tag pom-poms showing the way to breezy, easy summer-time glamour.
Caroline Issa – consultant to L.K.Bennett London has worked closely with the footwear and accessories design team to create a collection inspired by her trips to Thailand.
L.K.Bennett will be showcasing their AW13 collection at the upcoming Micam, Milan show this March.
New boot ranges for Julian Hakes London and Butterfly Twists
AW13 will see the launch of many new collections for established and up and coming brands alike, moving into areas which will help to diversify and weatherproof popular Spring/Summer themes/styles.
Folding ballerina label Butterfly Twists, who last year saw a sizeable investment from the Pentland Group, are showcasing a flexible Wellington, which will sit alongside the current range of foldable flat boots designed to rescue feet from a long day in heels.
Architect turned footwear designer Julian Hakes has also branched out in to boots, with the development of a moulded neoprene boot leg that sits inside the current Mojito design.
Both Julian Hakes London and Butterfly Twists are currently exhibiting at FN Platform and will go on to show at Micam, Milan this March.
British success in the US
As day one closes at FN Platform, British Footwear brands herald success in the US market, with news of a busy show attracting buyers covering North America, Asia, Central America and Indonesia.
Mens footwear is one area that is proving popular across the pond. Comfort brand Steptronic Footwear, which launched only 5 years ago, has now reached 100 US clients in the space of just 3 seasons. In our January newsletter Steptronic MD, David Corben cited ‘good export business’ as the key to a successful 2013 and will go on to exhibit further this season at Micam, Milan and GDS, Dusseldorf.
Oliver Sweeney is also reporting progress in the US market, as they appoint US and Canadian agents, as well as having been picked up by department store Nordstrom.
In addition to the achievements of the 25 British brands currently exhibiting at the Las Vegas show, the BFA are honoured to have met with the commercial secretary from the UK embassy in Mexico and have been in discussions with the UKTI officer from Mexico City about a possible fashion display for press and leading retailers in November of this year.
Miss L Fire selected for BritWeek, LA
British womenswear brand Miss L Fire, currently exhibiting at FN Platform in Las Vegas, has been selected to take part in the 7th Annual BritWeek event in Los Angeles, USA.
BritWeek, which was set up in 2007, is a non-profit organisation that hosts a programme of events celebrating creativity and innovation between the UK and California across a two week period. The calendar includes a red carpet launch event, UKTI Business innovation Awards and a two day jubilee festival in Santa Monica.
Miss L Fire are also due to open their first US retail outlet LA later this year.
Beyond Skin to support PETA with AW13 Collection
Ethical footwear label Beyond Skin, is to support animal charity PETA with one of the styles from their AW13 collection. The slipper style shoe (above), designed by UK graphic designer Cat Finnie, features a horse portrait and will see a percentage of its profits go to the charity.
The slipper ties in with the rest of the AW range which fuses vintage styling with understated glamour in a palette of purple, teal and pink. Beyond Skin continue to work with the recycled faux suede fabric DINAMICA® , which manufactured in Italy is also used by brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Jaguar.
Julian Hakes London to show AW13 collection at London Fashion Week
2012 saw award winning architect Julian Hakes take the footwear industry by storm with his iconic Mojito Shoe. Having won ‘Best Footwear Designer of the Year’ at the 2012 Drapers Footwear & Accessories Awards, Hakes went on to impress at the conservative party conference in October where he became the first fashion brand to win the Start up Hub Innovation Award.
This February see’s Julian Hakes London exhibiting at London Fashion Week for the 6th consecutive season, where he will be showing his AW13 Collection.

Aptly named the Poppy D’s, the platform shoe comes in three colour ways and has been re-skinned in mirror metallic with fish scale laser cut-outs
Cocorose London unveils the 2013 BAFTA Shoe
Cocorose London, the luxury foldable ballet pump brand, have unveiled this years ‘BAFTA Shoe’, this is the fourth limited edition shoe that Cocorose London have designed exclusively for the BAFTAs since becoming Official Gift Partners for the prestigious award ceremony back in 2010.
The shoe (above) , which has been featured widely in UK TV and Press, forms part of the BAFTA goody bag, which also contains gifts from Asprey, Escada and Anya Hindmarsh.
Whilst this design is entirely exclusive to award nominees and presenters, the AW13 range will be on display at Platform, Micam and GDS trade shows in February and March.
Oliver Sweeney bring back the ‘Abrahams’ range for SS13

Oliver Sweeney are to bring back the popular SS12 ‘Abrahams’ range, with an injection of Oliver Sweeney panache. These correspondent shoes are available in a variety of colours to give even a British Summer some colour and grace.

Combining the Fin Project Lite sole with the Goodyear welted construction results in a shoe that is a light, assiduously comfy and extremely hardwearing. The strong solid colours available mean you have the choice of making a statement with the Navy, Grey, Gaucho and Navy/Burgundy combination, the latter being a new colour for SS13.
FitFlop collaborate with Cordwainers at London College of Fashion

Fitflop has teamed up with Cordwainers at London College of Fashion to celebrate Valentines day. Fitflop have breifed undergraduate students at the college to express love by customising a pair of red SHUV clogs (which debut – uncustomised – mid 2013).
Fitflop have called in the help of Macia Kilgore (Fitflop Founder), designer Lulu Guiness and Hilary Alexander to judge and shortlist the entries, which will then face a public vote via Facebook from the 11th February.

The winning designer is to be announced on Valentines day itself and will recieve the prize of £1000 and a full days workshop with the Fitflop design team.
